Flight 1231

Another good one after a no fly day yesterday. The wing got totally soaked during layout and initial propwash. The combination of wet heavy wing and moisture laden air made it sluggish to come up and susceptible to wild swings and collapse. Two attempts and two aborted.

Today I tried to dry the field as much as possible by blowing it with the paramotor. The wing still came up slow but it was stable throughout the launch. The climb rate was poor below 400 ft. But it improved as I climbed into higher air.

I revisited the area where I encountered the migration earlier in the week but only saw a few small flocks.

Flight #1227

Skip left us yesterday.

Light easterly breeze made for a crosswind launch. I decided to inflate across the runway and turn 70 degrees down once the wing was stable. It came off without a hitch.

Nice flight. I saw what could have been a tangle in the right upper cascade but the wing looked good … no deformity. Out of an abundance of caution , I kept my turns flat and slow.

Flights #1225 & #1226

Aborted first launch when I discovered that I had not moved the wing bag to the side. It was caught in the upper cascade just center right. I could feel the bag flapping in the right brake toggle.

Winds were very light and I was able to re-set in the opposite direction and launch cleanly. The wing was a little damp but manageable.

Am experimenting with the IPad mounted to the right on the wing bag container.

Flight #1224

Nice flight .

Climbed to 5100 ft AGL and enjoyed the chill… until I didn’t. No Drama. WTS toggle line was a little conflicted which caused a slight pull to the left on take-off but not enough to abort. As soon as I was up and climbing I sorted it out.

The Saharan sand plume has mostly moved on and tomorrow is a possibility depending on if Skip and I are going to church.
