August 15 – 16 – 17 Flights #1344 #1345 #1346

Three up Three down. The WST is installed and works as advertised. It works fine as a steering toggle , it’s comfortable and requires less pressure than the brakes. BUT… it won’t turn a big tandem wing into an acro glider. It was a worthy experiment and I think I’ll be using the WST a lot.

The next mod is going to be a better way to close the trimmers.

After several sessions with the GoPro support team I’m back to recording all flights with 2 cameras.

Flight #1343

After several adjustments I have finally got the wing tip steering toggle installed and tested. The WST attaches at the top of main brake line cascade, BR6.

It currently has about 12 inches of slack before it engages the wing putting the toggle in a very comfortable position about mid chest. It feels good but limits how much I can warp the tip. I’m going to shorten it a bit and see how the wing reacts. It seems to work great as a steering toggle with smooth flat turns, it will be interesting to see if I can do harder banking turns and how the wing comes out of the turn.

Flights #1339 to #1342

I woke up with a pulled muscle in my lower back and saw a couple of storm cells near Placida but decided to send it anyway and I’m glad I did.

Launch and landing were spot on. Small rain shower close by kept me near the LZ in case I needed to set down in a hurry. The air was bump level 5 at 300-400 and the wind picked up from nil to 15 mph while the storm cell passed north of me.

Flew the APCO because I have not been able to get the WTS dialed in on the Duet just yet

Stopped at the Peachland Publix to see Diedra on the way home. All is well.
